Course Objective

The main purpose of this course is to provide Mechanical Engineering students with the ability to analyze a given mechanical problem simply and logically and to solve it using the basic principles of mechanics.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to discuss stresses resulting from general loading
2   Ability to use transformation of stress and strain relationships
3   Ability to calculate stresses, applied loads, etc., in a machine element by using strain gage measurements
4   Ability to design mechanical systems
5   Ability to solve mechanics problems by energy methods

10 Design of transmission shafts subjected to bending and torsion moments.
11 Deflection of beams by integral method, the equation of elastic curve, hyperstatic problems, superposition method.
12 Columns,stability of structures, Euler's formula.
