Course Objective

Electrical methods in Geophysics, the source of self-potential, generation causes, measuring equipment, corrections, models, evaluation of SP data and applications, introduction to resistivity method, electrical properties of rocks, basic electrical definitions, electrical potential equation in ideal (semi-infinitive, homogeneous, isotrop) media, configurations, reciprocity, horizontal layering and their evaluation (master curves-Dar Zarrouk parameters- maps- evaluation of data with computers), image method, elektrical resistivity inversion, 2 and 3 dimension inversion in resistivity, IP

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describe the generation causes of self-potential.
2   Identify the source of self-potential and conduction of electricity for subsurface.
3   Calculate the potential changes for different subsurface conditions.
4   Explain the boundary conditions for the given formula.
5   Simulate the different geophysical problems, calculate the potential and resistivity/conductivity changes, interpret the measurement results, solve the problems.
