Course Objective

The objective of this course is to provide students a solid grounding in the theory and practice of product and business development covering market feasibility (what is the need and do customers want the product), technical feasibility (engineering design, prototyping, and manufacture), and financial feasibility (how much money will the company make). It also aims to provide students with an understanding of the ways in which technology is brought to market.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to identify the necessary steps to produce a viable product and critical elements of the product development process
2   Ability to translate market needs into product idea statements, evaluate these ideas and develop selected ideas into concepts
3   Ability to conduct concept testing, develop a production and launch plan for the new product concept
