Course Objective

This course aims to teach the advanced treatment techniques used for wastewater treatment to protect water quality with an emphasis on fundamental principals. It gives the ability of designing and operation of advanced processes to treat the contanants, which can not be treated by conventional treatment methods.

1   Definability of the parameters to be treated by advanced treatment methods
2   Describability of advanced treatment methods
3   Definability of which advanced processes can be applicable for which contaminants
4   The ability of designing of advanced processes (adsorption, membrane processes, membrane bioreactors, etc.)
5   Describability, detectability, and solvability of problems relating with advanced treatment processes

9 Membrane bioreactors, Electrodialysis
10 Nitrogen treatment systems (Nitrification, denitrification)
11 Ammonia stripping, breakpoint chlorination
12 Phosphorus removal techniques (biological methods, chemical methods)
13 Combined nitrogen and phosphorus removal systems-I
14 Combined nitrogen and phosphorus removal systems-II
