Course Objective

Image is not only how we look. Our image is a communication tool as institutional and
individual. Image starts with the physical appearance and it continues with behaviours,
nonverbal communication; body language,colors,verbal communication;speaking and writing
and even email and internet culture, and how we take place in a social media.
Effective image management is important. The essential point in image management is the
recognition of self personality. Personality is the whole of distinctive psychological
and physical feathures of that person. Recognizing our personality means being
conscious of what we can do and cannot do, our weaknesses, strengths and core values.
Being aware of our image and managing it efficiently and effectively allows us to build
our business reputation and perception positively in our professional life. It supports
our climbing the carrier steps in a safe, stable and affective way. 90 % of people
pass a judgment about each other based on their appearances in the first few minutes
when they first confront with each other. In this context, the style of clothing, the
accessories are the signs of personal image. Proper dressing is one of the first steps
to be taken towards creating a positive image. The aim this lesson is to make possitive
the first impressions of young engineers, improve themselves in managing the
perceptions of other people, to pass a permanent and constructive information in the
way to have an effective personal image.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understand personal image and the importance of personal image in Professional life
2   To understand the body language and its importance, to analyse the language of own body
3   To learn to selection of appropriate clothes and accessories in working life according to body and face types
4   To make the students think about the image that match with their career goals and make plans and improve themselves according to these goals
5   To learn doing personal SWOT analysis, to make them recognize themselves and Express themselves accurately in working life, social life, meetings, interviews
6   To learn email writing, speaking on the phone, business ethics

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Personal SWOT analysis, recognising and improving oneself, concept of personal brand
2 Personal image and its importance, personal image according to personal differences, importance or first impression and appearence
3 Personal image components. appearance (clothing, care , etc ) speech ( used words , tone , rhetoric and so on. ) behavior ( attitude , friendliness , courtesy, manners , etc . )
4 Business life guidelines for creating a professional image , the effects of personal image on corporate image
5 Style, color, fashion. The importance of clothing on image formation
6 Clothing styles for men and women in different (classic, everyday , sports ...)
7 Knowledge of color, hue , contrast level , the importance and meanings of color in our business and social life messages they to the other people
8 Personal colors according to skin tone, hair and eye colors, the choice of colors and contrast levels in the interviews and workplace
9 Female and male body and face shapes, body proportions. Selection of appropriate clothing according to body shape
10 Basic types of fabrics, fabrics according to material type. Fabric choice depends on the body type, fabrics which can be worn and should not be worn at work. Appropriate fabric patterns for work life.
11 Consistency of personal image with the corporate image: Dressing appropriately with the career and business environment. Consistency and compliance of the personal image to the sector, institution, career position, objectives and social life.
12 Daily and professional life conversation ( used words , tone , rhetoric and so on. ) , Conduct ( attitude , friendliness , courtesy, manners , etc . )
