Course Objective

Course objective is to give information about technical fabric structures, finishing techniques and smart garments for technical and medical applications.


Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To get information about geotextiles, conveyor belts, textile composites, ropes with small diameters and braiding.
2   To get information about medical textiles and smart garments.
3   To know the finishing techniques which are used for technical textiles such as protective garments and military garments.
4   To distinguish the developments and application areas of technical textiles.
5   To adapt the information about technical textiles to individual working areas.

1 Declaration and selection of projects about technical textiles
2 Technical fabric structures- ropes and braiding technologies
3 Technical fabric structures- multiaxial weaving and hibrid fabrics and layers
4 Technical fabric structures- spacer weaving and fabrics, 3 dimensional woven fabrics
5 Technical fabric structures- bulky structures
6 Technical fabric structures-composite fabrics
7 First Midterm exam
8 Technical fabric structures-medical textiles
9 Finishing techniques of technical textiles- coating and lamination techniques (water repellency, waterproofness, water vapor permeability)
10 Finishing techniques of technical textiles- modification of technical textiles (plasma polimerization, sol-gel coating, microcapsulation)
11 Finishing techniques of technical textiles- functional finishes (antibacterial, thermal protective etc.)
12 Confection of technical fabrics-smart garments and designing possibilities
13 Smart garments with electronic components (military clothes, medical garments etc.)
