Course Objective

The aim of the lecture is to provide tools that will enable students to understand and explain developments in the global political economy. Students will gain a thorough understanding of recent developments as well as the history of globalization.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to explain the developments in the world economy with historical dimensions
2   To be able to question the international political economy, its development and problems, its definition, to be able to follow and interpret the main debates
3   To be able to analyze center-periphery, north-south relations, to be able to evaluate poverty, inequality and environmental problems
4   To be able to evaluate globalization, its historical development, the stage it has reached and its consequences
5   To be able to evaluate the global financial system and its problems
6   To be able to evaluate the world with an open and critical perspective through the interaction of economics, politics and political economy

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In addition to traditional lectures, the course will continue with the presentation of statistics and case reports, and will be completed with homework assignments aimed at presenting book summaries, statistics and case studies related to the field.
