Course Objective

To show at least to levels of folk religiousity and make students comprehend the differences of the idealistic and populistic understanding of religion; to teach them the psychological and social foundations of folk beliefs and practices; thus to show the way of good and reasonable communications with pious people.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Have knowledge on the difference of the docrtrinal and practical dimensions of the religion
2   Learn the psychological and social factors behind the folk beliefs and practices;
3   Learn the good and reasonable way of communication with the religious people
4   Learn the difficulty of differentiation between religious and folk beliefs
5   Grasp the prophets attitude on his times folk beliefs

2 Folk beliefs and Islamic sources (Quran and Hadith)
3 Common beliefs and practices related with birth.
4 Common beliefs and practices related with marriage.
5 Common beliefs and practices related with death and disposal of death.
6 Beliefs about the creation and maintenance of Heaven and Earth.
7 Lucy and Inauspicious Times and Events.
8 Mid-term
9 Saint cult and visiting of tombs.
10 Some beliefs about unvisible beings and demons.
11 Witchcraft and sorcery
12 Fortune Telling
13 Examples of tree, mountain and stone cults.
14 Examples of heaven, fire and water cults.
15 Final exam
