Course Objective

The objective of this course is to strengthen the fundemental knowledge of Roman private law and to obtain a better understanding of the influences of Roman law on the modern legal systems by elaborating on the Roman procedural system. In this course the different procedural practices which carried out during various historical epoches of ancient Rome will be explained.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to comprehend and explain the different methods concerning protection of rights, which were carried out during various epochs of ancient Rome.
2   To be able to explain various legal remedies and to be able to discuss the reasons for their emergence.
3   To be able to define and explain the judicial bodies and subjects of the Roman procedural law.
4   To be able to comprehend and explain the connection between the concepts of right and action (lawsuit/case) in Roman law.
5   To be able to explain the concept of action (lawsuit/case) in Roman procedural law.
