Course Objective

Explanation of basic geology and mineralogy (mineral science). Giving theoretical information on the definition, occurrence, classification and naming of rock-forming minerals and rock types commonly found in nature. Geology of archaeological sites and recognition of rocks and minerals found in excavation areas, thus forming the mineral and rock knowledge of Archeology Department students.

1   Ability to use basic geological knowledge
2   Recognize and interpret geological structures
3   To be able to recognize and classify the main rock-forming minerals.
4   To be able to recognize and classify the basic rock types
5   To be able to apply the new knowledge gained from this course in archaeological areas.

3 Physical properties and classifications of minerals Earthquakes and Tsunamis
4 Important rock-forming mineral groups and ornamental stones Geological Time and basic concepts
5 Igneous and volcanic processes
6 Occurrence of igneous rocks in nature and basic igneous rock groups
7 Midterm exam
8 Metamorphism and metamorphic processes
9 Occurrence of metamorphic rocks in nature and basic metamorphic rock groups
10 Weathering and its effect on rocks
