Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enable student to comprehend the changes in natural languages and to enable them to classify the languages genetically and typologically.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   explain the methods used in historical linguistics
2   define the basic terms used in the classification of languages.
3   analyze language change on the micro level in reference to examples from natural languages
4   comment on the historical linguistic theories
5   evaluate the diachronic studies with a critical perspective
