Course Objective

The aim of this course is to get the students to comprehend methods and techniques used in foreign language learning and teaching from past to present theoretically and in practice; and gain knowledge and awareness on the qualities of an effective teacher.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   the student is expected to be able to express basic concepts such as learning, teaching and education,
2   the student is expected to be able to express and discussing qualities and roles of a teacher and the significance of them
3   the student is expected to be able to outline the approcahes relating foreign language learning and teaching from past to present
4   the student is expected to be able to apply foreign language teaching methods in accordance with specific teaching objectives
5   the student is expected to be able to compare different foreign language teaching methods showing the difference between them
6   the student is expected to be able to prepare a sample lesson plan to teach a specific structure or linguistic item within the framework of a specific language teaching method.

Learning outcomes 1-6 will be evaluated via the questions asked in the mid-term exams, final exam and assignments.

1- 70% class attendance is obligatory.
2- Absence from classes will not be considered as an excuse for late submission of the homework assignments/projects.
3- Cheating and plagiarism attempts in assignments and exams will be evaluated with a 0 (zero) grade.
