Course Objective

In this lecture the students will learn the basic techniques used in biochemistry laboratory.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Make an experimental application to reveal some properties of proteins and amino acids and interpret the results. Students can perform protein isolation from a source and determine the amount of protein in its content.
2   2. Examine the effects of factors such as substrate, enzyme amount, pH and temperature on enzyme activity and interpret the results.
3   3. Make an experimental application to reveal the presence and properties of carbohydrates in biological sources and interpret the results.
4   4. Examine the properties of oils such as solubility and saponification experimentally and interpret the results.
5   5. Will be able to design an experiment for DNA isolation from a biological source.

Assessment Criteria

Meaningful learning of the concepts of given experimental applications, association to concepts each other, establish cause-effect relationships, to using existed knowledge for evaluation to questions or problems and evaluating of generation ideas are carried out by using the midterm exam, final exam, active participation in the experimental practice. The lecturer informs the student about the assignments and their collection dates within first four weeks. The assignments with signatures are collected within the last two weeks.
