Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to explain atomic structure, chemical bonding and intermolecular forces; to determine geometrical structure and symmetry properties, to discuss the conductivities of metal-semimetals and to investigate the concepts of acidbase.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain the structure of the atom, determine the geometric shapes of molecules.
2   Explain the properties of molecules with related theories.
3   Define bonding types related to crystalline solids, make calculations related to solids and explain the electrical conductivity of metals.
4   Examine intermolecular interactions and determine the symmetry properties of molecules.
5   Can express acids and bases with different definitions, interpret their hardness and softness, and also determine the effect of solvents other than water on acid-base reactions.
