Course Objective

The aim of this course, to examine aromatic compounds, their reactions, aldehydes and ketones, nucleophilic addition to the carbonyl group, aldol reactions, carboxylic acids and their derivatives, nucleophilic addition-elimination reactions at the acyl carbon, synthesis of dicarbonyl compounds, amines, phenols and reactions of aryl halids.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, the students are able to; discuss the properties and reactions of aromatic compounds.
2   write the synthesis and reactions of Aldehydes and Ketones.
3   write Synthesis and reactions of carboxylic acids and their derivatives by classifying them. And they are able to discuss the synthesis and reactions of active methylene compounds.
4   examine the properties, synthesis and reactions of amines.
5   discuss the synthesis and reactions of phenol and aryl halides.
