Course Objective

The main objective of this course is to give fundamentals of chemistry covering matter and measurement, the basic structure of the atom, formation of molecules and ions, the quantitative nature of chemical formulas and chemical reactions focusing on aqueous solution, chemical bonding, gas Laws and properties of liquids and solids.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   develop a full understanding of properties of matter, units of measurement,
2   establish the relationship between atomic structure and periodic table.
3   discuss in detail the issues of stoichiometry, calculations with chemical formulas and equations,
4   gain an ability to understand basic concepts of chemical bonding, molecular geometry and molecular orbitals,
5   use the knowledge of physical properties of gases, liquids and solids in order to predict the behaviour of molecules,
