Course Objective

Researching by examining the theory of the process of art history trough the masters and their masterpieces and applying this on his/her original works.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Studying on artists' self-portraits in art history.
2   Making sketches of self-portrait with drawings and plans.
3   Forming head-neck-shoulder and figure-ground relation, applying on canvas by using design elements and principles.
4   Forming a concept or an object, working on conceptual bases of artists manifestations, writings and critiques.
5   Creating his/her manifestation.
6   Studying on painting on canvas around nowadays sources, new ways of expression and tradition. As a conclusion developing a Project questioning his/her own language of expression.
7   Making a research on semiology and image and applying it on canvas.
8   Finishing the Project and presenting it with a seminar.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Work on canvas a self-portrait. The study on artists self-portraits in art history and prepare a folio.
2 Making sketches of self-portrait with drawings and plans and choosing.
3 Can form head-neck-shoulder and figure-ground relation, can apply on canvas by using design elements and principles.
4 Applying on canvas. Empty-full spaces, lightness-darkness balance.
5 Applying on canvas. Analyzing color in a relation of figure-ground.
6 Applying on canvas. Forming an original language of expression in using dye.
7 Finishing applying on canvas. Finishing the evolution of style by using design elements and principles on a self-portrait.
8 Course overview, evaluation and midterm examination
9 From a concept or an object can work on conceptual bases of artists manifestations, writings and critiques. Working with his/her style developed in min.80x100 composition and technique.
10 Sketches and drafts. Applying the composition with an original way of expression on canvas.
11 Forming his/her manifestation by finishing applying on canvas.
12 Can study on painting on canvas around nowadays sources (biennials, book and critiques), new ways of expression and tradition(miniature). As a conclusion can develop a Project questioning his/her own language of expression. Creating new sketches searches new way of expression and Applying on canvas with min.5 works for his/her Project.
13 Applying abstract painting-miniature-concept or object within his/her Project on canvas.
14 Can make a research on semiology and image and apply it on canvas.
15 Final
