Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students summarize the general lines of earlier periods of Ottoman Empire

1   1 . To be able to explain the emergence of the Ottoman Principality
2   2.To be able to explain and discuss the relationships with Byzantine and Anatolian principalities in early period
3   3.To be able to show the expansion areas of the Empire on the map
4   4. To be able to comment on the conquest of Istanbul and reorganization of state by Fatih

2 2.Anatolia, Balkans and Byzantine Empire during the foundation of the Ottoman state
3 3. Foundation of the Ottoman State: political motives of the foundation
4 4. Foundation of the Ottoman State: socio-cultural and socio-economic factors affected in the foundation period
5 5. Expansion at the early period and relations with the Byzantine Empire
6 6. Transition to the Balkans: Conquest and settlement
7 7. Relations with Balkan kingdoms and principalities
8 8. Midterm
9 9. Expansion at the early period and relations with the Anatolian principalities
10 10. Timurid Empire and The Battle of Ankara
11 11. Fight among the brothers for the throne and Interregnum Period
12 12. The era of Mehmed I: Restoring of the Authority
13 13. The era of Murad II: Balance Period in Relations
