Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach analytical chemistry (concepts such as quantitative and quantitative analysis methods, anion-cation analysis, drinking water qualitative analysis, gravimetric analysis methods, titrimetric analysis methods, volumetric analysis and calculation methods, instrumental analysis methods) and organic chemistry (concepts such as molecular formulas and nomenclature, formula, radical concept) and to make experiments about these subjects.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students know the basic concepts of analytical chemistry and distinguish the content of analytical chemistry science from other branches of chemistry.
2   Students know and distinguish chemical analysis methods used in analytical chemistry.
3   Students make experiments with chemical analysis methods in analytical chemistry.
4   Students make analytical calculations in analytical chemistry.
5   Students know instrumental analysis methods and make experiments.
6   Students know the basic concepts of organic chemistry and distinguish the content of organic science from other branches of chemistry.
7   Students know the basic organic molecule formulas in organic chemistry and their nomenclature.
8   Students know nomenclature of alkanes, alkanes, alkyls, alkyl halides and aromatic compounds; they have general properties, synthesis methods and reactions about these compounds.
9   Students know nomenclature of alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, amines and esters; they have information about their general characteristics.
10   Students learn fat, protein and DNA structures.
11   Students identify organic/inorganic compounds and classify them.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The homeworks will be assessed by directly adding to the mid-term scores. The exam dates will be indicated in the lesson plan. As the exam dates become definite, the previously announced dates may change.

Assessment Criteria

1. The basic principals of chemistry, the laws of chemistry will be assessed by exams, homeworks, portfolios and projects.

1. It is obligated to continue to at least 70% of lessons .
2. Every trial to copying will be finalized with disciplinary proceedings.
3. The instructor has right to make quizzes. The scores obtained from quizzes will be directly added to exam scores.
