Course Objective

The aim of this course is to describe the structures of the Nervous System macroscopically and microscopically, to learn the functions of the Nervous System and to understand the sensory physiology.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describe the anatomy, histology and embryology of the Central Nervous System structures
2   Explain the cranial nerves
3   Explain the ascending and descending tracts
4   Define eye anatomy and visual pathways, ear anatomy and auditory pathways
5   Explain the autonomic nervous system
6   Explain how the motor and sensory functions of the nervous system take place at the level of the medulla spinalis, brainstem and cortex
7   Describe spinal reflexes
8   Explain the higher functions of the nervous system such as conditioned reflex, learning and memory through physiological mechanisms
9   Understand the nervous system and sensory examination
10   Understand the use of trauma boards
