Course Objective

The aim of this module is to acquire students the necessary skills for searching the scientific literature and critically reading the scientific papers by using checklists adopted from international guidelines.
At the end of this module student will be able to identify different study designs, evaluate the methods of obervational studies for strengths and weaknesses, understand how to chose the statistical tests for data analysis and interpret the results of the studies.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

In order to pass the critical appraisal skills SSM
1- Students need to attend 70% of the lectures and small group activities with the advisor.
2- Students need answer correctly half of the questions in the final test exam.

Assessment Criteria

At the end of the module students will given a test that includes questions from the theoretical lectures and critical appraisal methods used in the 3 practicals. In order to pass students need to answer half of the questions correctly.
Students fail, if they can not answer corretly half of the questions in the exam or do not participate 70% of the activities in the SSM.
If the students fail then they need to repeat for the exam.
