Course Objective

The primary purpose of the course is to teach students the following topics: globalization concept after 1980s, globalization, modernity, nation-states and Türkiye, free-market economy and Türkiye, economic, social and cultural outcomes of globalization, EU and its development process, Türkiye-EU relations.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have detailed knowledge about globalization, modernity and nation-states
2   To provide information on the characteristics of globalization, modernity and nation-states
3   To have knowledge about free-market economy and Türkiye
4   To have knowledge about economic, social and cultural outcomes of globalization
5   To have knowledge about the effects of globalization and modernity on nation-states structures.

1 Turkish foreign policy in the early period: Ataturk s foreign policy strategies and applications
2 Aim of Ataturk s forign policy: National sovereignty, independence, modernization, welfare of the people
3 Ataturk s foreign policy principles: rationalism, realism, equality, Peace at home, peace in the world , consistency, reliability
4 Globalization and the new international system: Regionalization and integration movements.
5 Development of the Union idea in Europe: From European Economic Community to EU
6 Enlargement of the EU: The Single European Act, Maastricht Treaty
7 Amsterdam Treaty, Nice Treaty, EU Constitution
8 Mid-term
9 Türkiye s EU participation process within Ataturk s foreign policy aims.
10 Türkiye s application for associate membership in the EEC and the Ankara treaty
11 Türkiye s preparation period and discussions about the Additional Protocol
12 Türkiye-EU Association Council decision: The transition period and the Customs Union
13 Türkiye's application for full EU Membership: Luxembourg, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Brussels Summits
14 Türkiye-EU Accession Process and the future of Türkiye in EU.
