Course Objective |
The aim of this course is to explore the complex relationships between music and society by considering the studies based on sociology and ethnomusicology. Musical practices and discourses, ranging from western music to traditional Turkish art music, folk music to popular music, will be examined in terms of the social contexts. Special attention is given to the issues regarding musical life in Türkiye (historical, contemporary, etc.). |

The courses are based on important texts such as books, chapters and articles considering the basic concepts of sociology. Thus, the student will be able to grasp and discuss the relationship between a sociological concept and a musical fact. |
