Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students make sense the different musical phenomena which encountering in everyday life and is to constitute a foundation for following courses focused on social and cultural context.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Define fundamental concepts which are explain the social and cultural aspects of music,
2   Explain the relationship between music and sociocultural system,
3   Explain why and in which conditions the music should be study in its cultural context,
4   Explain the relationship between music and different social stratifications,
5   Determine the social aspects of musical events that he/she is encountering in everyday life,
6   Distinguish the relationship of music making with social/cultural problems like status, ethnicity, identity etc.
7   Discuss the societies have different cultural values over musical examples.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Courses
Lectures and presentations with audio-visual examples which reflect cultural and social aspect of music in everyday life of dissimilar societies. Courses are base upon to understanding of fundemantal concepts of Sociology and Cultural Anthropology and consolidate with additional instructions and examples. .
Assignments
Assignments aim to orientate the students to research on specific topics; and to presentation and discussion of results in class environment. Assignments are perform as individually or group work.
