Course Objective

To teach the beneficiation methods based on chemical and physico-chemical processes

1 The importance of occupational health and safety in laboratory use, work accidents and occupational diseases, precautions and practices to be taken
2 The importance and historical development of flotation, Chemical bonds and phases in flotation
3 Surface tension and zeta potential
4 Flotation and other physicochemical processes (dispersion, flocculation and coagulation)
5 Flotation process and conventional flotation machines and circuits
6 Flotation reagents
7 General review, course evaluation, Midterm exam
8 Flotation of sulfur minerals
9 Flotation of oxide minerals
10 Hydrodynamic effects in flotation and other flotation machines (Column, Jameson and jet flotation)
11 Flowsheet of flotation
12 Basic concepts in chemical enrichment and solution (leaching) processes and technology
13 Recovery of metals from solution
14 Industrial applications and environmental impacts related to the leaching process
