Course Objective

Intruction to the basic animation techniques. To help students learn about and finding their way in areas of specialization. To explain the manufacturing processes of all basic animation techniques in theorie. To bring the students to a state where they are able to produce artworks on a basic level with each animation technique.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To know the basic theoretical level animation production methods.
2   To apply basic digital animation techniques
3   Basic understanding of the production methods of 2D digital animation techniques
4   To be able to understand the differences of basic animation techniques.
5   Ability of basic animation techniques to solve problems in production processes.

1 Introduction to 2D digital animation
2 An overview of digital cutout animation
3 Introduction to character rigging and an overview of FK (forward kinematic) rigs
4 Designing and animating a 2D character using an FK rig
5 Introduction to mesh deformations
6 An overview of IK (inverse kinematic) rigs
7 Designing and animating a 2D character using an IK rig
8 An overview of different rigging techniques
9 Introduction to working with audio and lip synchronization
10 Designing, rigging and animating a 2D character from scratch
11 Introduction to working with cameras in animation software
12 Introduciton to working with lights in animation software
13 Introduction to digital set design
14 Set design, lighting and staging exercises
