Course Objective

To provide information about DNA technologies and to ensure that all this information can be used in the field of dentistry; To enable students to comprehend subjects such as human genetics, epigenetics, cell signaling, cell cycle, death, control, stem cell biology, developmental biology, population genetics; To teach the genetics factors that cause diseases ; personalise genome projects aim to inform about personalized and precision medicine.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knows genetic diseases, causative factors, diagnostic methods
2   Identify, correctly hypothesize and solve problems in medical biology and genetics
3   Knows contemporary methods, techniques and tools in Medical Biology and Genetics
4   Explain the potential of DNA technologies to be used in dentistry
5   Knows the concepts of cell signaling, cell cycle, cell death and control.
6   Knows concepts such as (phenotype, genotype, Hardy-Weinberg, factors affecting gene frequency, mutation rate, migration, natural selection, genetic drift, founder effect, comparison and characterization of quantitative and qualitative traits, inbreeding) in population genetics
7   Knows the epigenetic mechanisms
8   Knows personal genome projects, personalized and precision medicine approaches
9   Knows the genetics and developmental anomalies of the oral cavity and tooth development.
10   Knows the cancer molecular mechanisms and genetics
11   Knows the stem cells and their applications in dentistry

1.Will be evaluated as criteria the accuracy of the answers given to the questions asked in the written midterm and final exam
