Course Objective

To transfer the basic theoretical information about veterinary surgery and to gain the notion of general practitioner veterinary medicine.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Makes the examination methods to be applied in the diagnosis of external diseases. 2   Makes Asepsis-Antisepsis Sterilization-Disinfection methods to be used in surgery. 3   Performs IV IM Injection serum applications 4   Recognize and apply sewing materials 5   Makes the diagnosis and treatment of visible surgical diseases. 6   Gain information about operation preparation

Course Contents

Week Subject Description 1 General introduction, disease etiology, clinical findings, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment methods. 2 Methods of approaching, holding, tying and laying animals. 3 Anamnesis, signalement, evaluation of habitus 4 Inspection methods. Examination of the eyes, ears and nose (head area). 5 Examination and treatment of neck, thorax, abdomen and urogenital systems. 6 Examination and evaluation of lameness and extremities. 7 Preparation for the operation (preparation of the patient, the operator and her/his assistants and the operation materials). 8 Midterm 9 Preoperative evaluation of the patient. CLINICAL ANIMAL WORK: Demonstrating the preoperative evaluation of the patient. 10 Evaluation of injection, puncture, incision types and application. 11 Dressing, bandage applications and types. 12 Head and neck diseases and treatment. 13 Evaluation of cauterization and physiotherapy applications 14 Bleeding, stopping bleeding, ligature and drainage applications. 15 Suture materials, properties and applications. 16 Final Exam
