Course Objective

The aim of this course is to inform and raise awareness of veterinary students about animal rights. Through this course, students will learn how to proceed against animal rights violations.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   It creates awareness about the place, importance and value of the animal in the professional and social life of the student.
2   It enables them to have scientific concepts and approaches on animal rights in their professional life.
3   Evaluates the necessary information about animal rights within the framework of the legal and ethical responsibilities of veterinarians.
4   Teaches the relationship between the animal rights movement and the animal welfare movement.
5   Provides information on national and international legislation on animal rights.

2 Historical development of the animal rights movement.
3 Animal ethics.
4 Animal rights within the scope of their use.
5 Animal protection organizations.
6 The Universal Declaration of Animal Rights and its importance.
7 Animal rights activists and their views.
8 Animal rights opponents and their views.
9 MID-TERM EXAM
10 Use of animals in research.
11 Animal Protection Law and its content, ethical evaluation of Animal Protection Law.
12 The value of animal rights in veterinary medicine.
13 Discussion of animal welfare within the scope of animal rights.
14 Animal protection law and evaluation of the cases brought to the court.
15 General assesment.
