Course Objective

The aim of the protozoology course is to inform the students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine about parasitic protozoans that cause loss of productivity and death in animals, the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases caused by these protozoa, how these diseases affect livestock in Türkiye and the world, and the zoonotic importance of these diseases.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   They make clinical and microscopic diagnoses of infections caused by parasitic protozoa in animals.
2   Provides information on the measures to be taken to protect against protozoan diseases in the name of preventive medicine

1 Introduction to protozoology and morphological and biological features of protozoa Hepatozoon, Haemoproteus, Leucocytozoon, Plasmodium
2 Relationships between protozoa and their hosts, Immunity to protozoa Babesia (morphology, biology)
3 Sarcomastigophora, Trypanasomas Babesia (pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, prevention)
4 leishmania Babesia
5 Cryptobiidae, Bodoniidae, Trichomonadidae
6 Monocercomonadidae, Diplomonadidae, and Amoebae
7 midterm
8 Eimeridae (morphology, biology, diagnosis, treatment, prevention)
9 coccidiosis in mammals and poultry
10 Cryptosporidium, Toxoplasma, Sarcocystis
