Course Objective

Bu ders, sindirim sistemi, karaciğer ve bilier sistem, pankreas, periton ve retroperiton, hematopoietik sistem, endokrin bezlerin patolojisi hakkında bilgi verir.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Gains the skill of recognizing diseases and making their etiological and pathomorphological distinctions.
2   Makes macroscopic and microscopic definitions of diseases encountered in veterinary medicine by using the possible pathogenesis of diseases, gains the ability to interpret results.
3   Gains knowledge about the pathology of digestive system, liver and biliary system, pancreas, peritoneum and retroperitoneum, hematopoietic system, endocrine glands.
4   Recognizes pathological changes in digestive system, liver and biliary system, pancreas, peritoneum and retroperitoneum, hematopoietic system, endocrine glands, and can make histopathological diagnosis.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Pathology of the Alimentary System Oral cavity: developmental disorders, diseases of teeth and dental tissues, Diseases of the cheek and oral mucosa
2 Pathology of the Alimentary System Diseases of the tonsils, neoplastic and similar lesions of the oral cavity, Salivary glands, Esophagus: anomalies, epithelial metaplasia and similar lesions, esophagitis, esophageal obstruction, stenosis and ruptures, dysphagia, parasitic diseases of the esophagus
3 Pathology of the Alimentary System Dystrophic, hyperplastic and postmortal changes in the rumen mucosa, rumen enlargement, foreign bodies, traumatic reticuloperitonitis and its complications, rumenitis, acidosis due to excessive carbohydrate intake, parasitic and neoplastic diseases of the forelimbs and esophagus
4 Pathology of the Alimentary System Stomach and abomasum: response of gastric mucosa to injury, pylorus stenosis, gastric dilation and displacement, foreign bodies and hardening of contents in the stomach, circulatory disorders, gastritis, gastroduodenal ulceration, gastric neoplasms
5 Pathology of the Alimentary System Intestine: congenital anomalies of the intestines, various lesions in the intestinal tract, intestinal obstruction, displacement of the intestines, intestinal ischemia and infarction, epithelial response in diseases, malabsorption and protein loss of the small intestines, inflammations of the large intestine, hyperplastic and neoplastic diseases of the intestine
6 Pathology of the Alimentary System Infectious and parasitic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract: viral diseases, bacterial diseases, mycotic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, protothecal enterocolitis, gastrointestinal helminthosis, protozoal infections

8 Pathology of the Liver and Biliary System Developmental disorders: cysts, biliary atresia, congenital vascular shunts, Displacement, torsion and rupture, Hepatocellular degenerations: hepatocellular atrophy, megalocytosis, cytosegresomes, intranuclear inclusions, pigmentation, hydropic degeneration and cloudy swelling, fatty liver, lysisamyloidosis
9 Pathology of the Liver and Biliary System Liver necrosis patterns, Liver reactions to injury, Liver failure, Postmortem and agonal changes in the liver, Vascular factors in liver injury
10 Pathology of the Liver and Biliary System Inflammation of the liver and biliary duct (hepatitis), Hepatic biotransformations, acute and chronic hepatotoxicity, Hyperelastic and neoplastic lesions of the liver and bile ducts
11 Pathology of the Pancreas Pancreatic anomalies, regressive changes in the pancreas, inflammation of the pancreas, hyperplastic and neoplastic lesions of the exocrine pancreas, Islets of Langerhans: Degenerative lesions of the islets of Langerhans-diabetes mellitus, islet cell tumors
12 Pathology of the Peritoneum and Retroperitoneum Anomalies, traumatic lesions of the abdomen and peritoneum, abnormal contents in the peritoneal cavity, abdominal fat necrosis, inflammation of the peritoneum, Parasitic diseases of the peritoneum, various lesions, neoplastic diseases of the peritoneum, Retroperitoneal diseases
