Course Objective

Teaching students the basic concepts of epidemiology,
- Ensuring that students have information about the factors affecting the emergence, contamination and spread of diseases that they may encounter during their education and professional life,
- Teaching what needs to be done for disease control and eradication

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The student learns the purpose, fields of activity and divisions of epidemiology.
2   The student learns disease determinants
3   The student learns the modes of transmission of infections, the factors affecting their spread and the types of infections.
4   The student learns the structure of animal populations, the course and incidence of diseases in the population, epidemiological rates and measurement methods.
5   The student learns the distribution of diseases and ecological concepts.
6   Learns epidemiological research types and stages
7   The student learns the properties of health charts
8   The student learns the classification and characteristics of zoonotic infections.
9   The student learns disease control and eradication methods, factors affecting control and eradication, control and eradication of important infectious diseases.

Course Contents

1 The purpose and parts of epidemiology; characterization of disease, planning and monitoring of control programs, and descriptive, experimental, analytical and theoretical epidemiology
2 Disease determinants; host determinants, causative determinants, environmental determinants
3 Transmission and spread of infections; The ways of entry of microorganisms into the body, their spread in the body, their exit from the body, the modes of transmission of microorganisms, the factors related to the spread of infections.
4 Types of infection; classification according to their localization in the body and their course in the body
5 The structure of animal populations, the course and incidence of diseases in the population, epidemiological rates, measurement methods
6 Distribution of diseases; temporal distribution of diseases, determination of temporal distribution, spatial distribution of diseases
7 Midterm Exam
8 Epidemiological research types; qualitative research, quantitative research; analytical experimental research, analytical observational research, model study, and continuous observation
9 Epidemiological research stages; the purpose and design of the research, the nature of the data, the coding of the data, the collection of data by sampling, the epidemiological data sources, the analysis and presentation of the data.
10 Health charts; characteristics of health charts, dairy cow health charts, beef cattle health charts, sheep health charts, chicken health charts
11 Zoonoses; classification of zoonoses, important zoonoses, zoonotic agents and modes of transmission
12 Zoonoses; important zoonoses, zoonotic agents and modes of transmission
13 Control and eradication of diseases; disease control and eradication methods, factors affecting control and eradication, control and eradication of important infectious diseases
14 Control and eradication of diseases; control and eradication of major infectious diseases
