Course Objective

Course allows to veterinary medicine students to have knowledge on: Heritable mechanisms of phenotype and genotype characteristics, function and structure of genes, classical and molecular development mechanisms of hereditary diseases and elimination from herd, applications and techniques of genetic engineering.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knows the place and importance of genetics in veterinary medicine, the history of genetics
2   Knows the genetic differences of cells and organisms in molecular level
3   Knows the structure of DNA and RNA, their structural differences, and the kinds of interactions between genes in DNA.
4   Knows inheritance models.
5   Knows the structure of genes and genomes, organization of chromosomes
6   Knows hereditary defects and diseases, genetic mechanisms in farm animals, methods for eradicating these diseases from the herd.
