General Description

History

Department of Cancer Epidemiology was established at 2015 as a department of Institute of Health Science by approval of The Council of Higher Education. Provide the graduation since 2015. Who are graduated from Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine can apply the Msc program of Cancver epidemiology.
Epidemiology perspective of education, research and laboratory services, which is a branch of a department. Our academic personals are from basic (Biostatistics, Bioinformatics) and clinical (Medical Oncology, Hemato- Oncology, Preventive Oncology) departments of Medical Faculty and Oncology Institute members. Cancer Epidemiology Msc program has been started education at 2015. Program duration is 2 years (1 year is course, 1 year is thesis study). The language of program is Turkish.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

First Cycle (Bachelor s Degree) diploma, minimum score of 55 from the nation-wide Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related fields or 50 in graduate medical residency examination (TUS) , acceptable minimum score of 60 from the Foreign Language Exams (UDS/KPDS) or the equivalent exams scores obtained from TOEFL/IELTS/etc. or being successful at the foreign language examination of the Institute (minimum score of 70) and being successful at the science examination of the Institute in the related fields (minimum score of 65)

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. In total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

Cancer Epidemiology Msc program has been started education at 2015. The objectives of this program are training the candidates to demonstrate skills in the recognition of meaningful problems, cases, and questions for research in cancer epidemiology and providing formal and academic instructions in the area of cancer epidemiology. Program contains compulsory course of oncology department and elective courses in different cancer epidemiology fields. Students may take courses from different programs and universities

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Acquire basic epidemiology, clinical and genetic cancer epidemiology knowledge and ability to practice of the epidemiological techniques.
2   Capable of prepare and present oral and written presentations in the field of cancer epidemiology.
3   Be able to perform works within the framework of the ethical rules in the field of cancer epidemiology.
4   Acquire use the information in the field of cancer epidemiology research required.
5   Acquire epidemiological and statistical information associated with cancer research.
6   Be able to gain ability to obtain information on other issues related to cancer epidemiology.
7   Thesis, as well as other activities related to cancer epidemiology, plans, implements, and the author presents and converts it for publication.
8   Be able to critically evaluate the scientific basis for evidence-based information on the epidemiology.
9   Be able to communicate effectively when applying epidemiological research.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

The program during the first year course equivalent of 60 ECTS credits per semester must take courses. In our program, there are compulsory and elective courses form our department. Students must take at least 120 ECTS credits and 60 ECTS credits of 120 credits from their Cancer Epidemiology Master's thesis. Elective courses are over 25%. There is no compulsory training course. 11 compulsory courses are from our departments in the program. The other courses in this program are elective.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Assessment of students was done with 1 midterm examination, 1 final examination, and homework and project studies. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.
