General Description
History |
Laboratory Animal Science is a multidisciplinary department established with the approval of The Council of Higher Education in 2003 within the DEU Health Science Institute. Medical faculty members from basic sciences (Microbiology, Biochemistry, Histology and Embryology) and clinical sciences (Anesthesiology and Reanimation) are involved in our department. Master Degree Program of Laboratory Animal Science was started education in 2004. The duration of the program is totally 4 semesters as 2 semesters for lessons and 2 semesters for the thesis. The language of the program is Turkish. In 2004, the Department of Laboratory Animal Science was approved by YÖK and was established as a multidisciplinary department within the Institute of Health Sciences of Dokuz Eylül University. In 2004, the graduate program was opened. Doctorate education started in 2012. It is the first department in our country to start postgraduate education (master's and phd) in this field. |

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) |
According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective. |
Qualification Requirements and Regulations |
Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. İn total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades. |
Profile of the Programme |
Laboratory Animal Science Department started the postgraduate program in 2004. The aims of this program are to have the basic knowledge and skills related to the laboratory animal science field, to learn the basic terminology, to improve presentation skills, to follow the scientific developments in his/her field and to have research knowledge and skills in his/her field. The program includes four compulsory lessons with elective lessons of laboratory animal science in different fields. Students may also select lessons from other departments, institutions and universities. |

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading |
Evaluation of the student in lesson is done by 2 midterm exams, 1 final exam homework and success in projects. In order to be successful from the lesson, the student should have taken at least 75 points. |
