History

Department of Histology and Embryology was established at 1994 of Medical Faculty by approval of The Council of Higher Education. Histology and Embryology Msc programme started education at 1997. Program duration is 2 years (1 year is course, 1 year is thesis study) . Program language is Turkish.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. İn total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S/ TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

The objectives of this programme are to have theoretical, laboratory knowledge and skills in the field of Histology and Embryology MSc level. Program contains Compulsory and elective courses each semester.

1   Has detailed information about cell structure and function at microscopic level.
2   Identifies and evaluates the histological features of tissue types of the human body.
3   Has sufficient knowledge about the general characteristics of human embryology.
4   Identifies evaluates and implements microscopic structure and organization of the organs of the body systems
5   Has an adequate knowledge about the laboratory methods used in fertilization and assisted reproduction.
6   Know operation principles and apply the usage and application methods for microscope types
7   Knows and applies all steps in preparing the tissue for light microscopic evaluation.
8   Knows and applies all steps in preparing the tissue for Electron Microscope
9   Can prepare a presentation according to the related topics
10   Has the ability to plan, write and finalize the research projects related to the field.
