General Description

History

Department of obstretric and gynecologic was established at September 26, 1994 as a department of Institute of Health Science by approval of the Senate. Our academic staff are consist ed of members of Department of Surgical Nursing of the Nursing Faculty and members of the Faculty of Medicine Department of General Surgery. Surgical Nursing MSc program has been started education at September 26, 1994. Program duration is 2 years (1 year is course, 1 year is thesis study. The language of program is Turkish.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. İn total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

Surgical Nursing Msc programme started education at 1994. The objectives of this programme are provide contemporary knowledge to meet roles and responsibilities of surgical nurses; to use the current knowledge and skills on surgical patient care management. Program contains 4 Compulsory Course each semester and elective courses in different obstretric and gynecologic fields. Students may take courses from different programs and university.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   To have knowledge at the level of expertise, to develop and deepen this knowledge in order to perform the roles and responsibilities of a OGN nurse based on undergraduate qualifications.
2   To be able to integrate the comprehensive data obtained from disciplines related to OGN
3   To be able to use the theoretical and applied knowledge obtained in OGN.
4   To be able to carry out a planned research regarding the diagnosis and solutions of the problems in the field of OGN.
5   To be able reflect the results of the research on the field of care.
6   To be able to develop solutions, evaluate the results for the problems determined in the field of OGN.
7   To be able to offer solutions for the complex problems that might be encountered in practices in the field of OGN.
8   To be able to evaluate information related to the field of OGN critically, and to be able to direct his/her own learning
9   To be able to publish a scientific research at a national journal or to be able to present it in a scientific meeting.
10   To be able to share information, current developments and his/her own studies with the groups in the same or different groups orally, visually or in written
11   o examine the social relationships and the norms directing these relationships critically, and to develop these and to take action to change these when necessary.
12   To be able to develop strategy, politics and practice plans in topics related to OGN:
13   To be able to apply the knowledge of OGN and the skill of problem solving in multi- disciplined studies.
14   To be able to communicate at least in one foreign language orally or in written. (European Language Portfolio General Level: B2).
15   To behave ethically by being aware of the ethical rules and the importance of these for the individual and the society.

Graduates of this program can work as a nurse specialist in the field of obstretric and gynecologic.
