General Description

History

The Milk and Dairy Products Technology Program, which was established in 2025 as part of the Food Processing Department at Kiraz Vocational School, began its educational activities in the fall semester of 2025-2026.

Qualification Awarded

Students who complete theoretical and practical courses are awarded an "associate degree."

Specific Admission Requirements

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have obtained a sufficient score on the university entrance exam.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS credits.

Profile of the Programme

The Milk and Dairy Products Technology Program aims to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge in the processing of milk, chemical and microbiological quality control of dairy products, their preservation and marketing, as well as food safety and food legislation. The program trains students to become qualified professionals capable of working as "Dairy Technicians" in production and quality control laboratories within the dairy industry, equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   To have the knowledge and skills to ensure that dairy production is carried out in accordance with hygiene-sanitation standards, legislation and Turkish Food Codex
2   To be able to make physical, chemical and microbiological analyzes of milk and products and interpret the results
3   To have the knowledge and practice to carry out basic technological operations in dairy farms
4   To have the knowledge and application skills of milk and products production techniques
5   To apply Quality Management Systems used in dairy industry
6   To have knowledge and skills about the machines used in dairy industry
7   To use dairy quality control laboratory equipment
8   To have a command of research methods and techniques, to use information technologies, to follow technological innovations, to have organizational skills
9   To have professional and social ethical values
10   To gain the ability to run computer programs related to the field, to gain the ability to record and document
11   With the awareness of the necessity of lifelong learning; to follow the developments in science and technology and to have the effort to constantly renew oneself
12   To be able to have and apply knowledge about food legislation.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of the Milk and Dairy Products Technology Program can work in the public sector (institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Livestock, the Institute of Public Health, municipalities, provincial health directorates, etc.), the private sector (dairy factories, dairies, dairy product additive and packaging manufacturers, the food industry), as well as in private laboratories and their R&D and quality control laboratories.

Access to Further Studies

Those who complete the associate degree program can be promoted to management positions at their workplace based on their performance. Additionally, they can enroll in the undergraduate programs of the Faculty of Economics or the Faculty of Business Administration at Anadolu University Open Education without taking an exam and obtain a four-year faculty diploma, or they can transfer to the Faculty of Engineering Department of Food Engineering through the DGS (Vertical Transfer Exam) and obtain the title of Food Engineer, or they can transfer to the Department of Dairy Technology in the Faculty of Agriculture - Dairy Technology Department to obtain the title of Agricultural Engineer.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluations are conducted in accordance with Dokuz Eylül University's "Associate and Bachelor's Degree Examination Regulations."

Graduation Requirements

In order to successfully complete all courses in the program, students must obtain a weighted grade point average of 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully complete their professional internship.
