Course Objective

The objective of this course is to inform students about economic, physical, social and cultural effects of tourism on local people, intercultural communication and ethical rules in communication with visitors.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understand social effects of tourism in a destination with all aspects.
2   Apprehend the problems those may occur during the interaction between local people and visitors; and to offer solutions to these problems.
3   Understand the concepts of intercultural communication, interaction and conflict; and to put rules of ethics and understanding practice while communicating with tourists.
4   Figure out sociological and psychological dimensions of tourist-local people relations; to evaluate after effects of this interaction and offer solutions in case of conflict.

The details about the preparation of assignments and presentations will be provided upon number of students in the beginning of the term.

Assessment Criteria

Midterm: It will measure levels of students to extrapolate using knowledge acquired.
Assignment /Presentation: It will assess levels of students to make a comment, discuss and offer solution with a holistic approach and capabilities to transfer their knowledge.
Final Exam: It will measure level of students to correlate the concepts discussed during the course, to evaluate and discuss causality and relationships and to propose solutions.
