Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students majoring in the experimental psychology module of the psychology master's program with an advanced knowledge of experimental methods used in cognitive psychology research. The main topics of the course include how to design an experiment, different types of experimental designs, participant and researcher characteristics, sample selection, analysis, and interpretation of experimental findings.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Makes methodological criticism of scientific research articles.
2   Identifies confounding variables.
3   Discuss whether the generalizations made are appropriate or not.
4   Distinguish between experimental and non-experimental scientific research techniques.
5   Formulate an experimental design appropriate to the research question.
6   Construct single-factor or multi-factor experimental designs.
7   Select statistical analysis techniques appropriate to the experimental design.
8   Be aware of the ethical principles to be followed while conducting experiments.
