Course Objective

According to TUIK statistics spanning from 2012 to 2022, a total of "1 million 559 thousand" couples went through divorce within the past "10" years. Following these separations, " 1 million 371 thousand 525" children were entrusted to custody. Focusing on the year 2022 alone "574.358" couples entered into marriage, while '180.954' couples underwent divorce. Out of these separations, "180 thousand 592" children were placed under custody. Post-divorce, an average of 75% of child custody was granted to mothers, with the remaining 25% awarded to fathers.

TUIK statistics underscore the significance of family dissolution and divorce as pressing social issues in today's society. This matter requires attention, examination, and resolutiın not only from legal and sociological perspectives but also from a psychological standpoint.

The divorce process extends beyond the legal realm and carries direct negative and detrimental psychological impacts on both spouses and children. Millions of individuals find themselves directly or indirecty affected psychologically by the dissolution of families and divorces. Following divorce, the custodial parent (typically the mother), the noncustodial parent, and the children encounter various psychological challenges.

Recognizing that divorce is not solely a legal procedure but also a psychological one, the goal of this course is to equip psychology students with the knowledge and skills to navigate the divorce process more constructively. The aim is to minmize the psychological impact on children duriing and after divorce. This course seeks to empower psychologists specializing in the 'family and divorce' field, offering them academic competence and practical skills.

The course endeavors to provide psychology students with the necessary knowledge and skills to foster healthier parenting practices both pre and post divorce.
