Course Objective

The course focuses on current issues and theories in the field of social development that constitute the multidisciplinary approach to the developmental psychology and social psychology. It is aimed to provide the students with knowledge about the historical approaches and the current studies and findings related to the earliest influences on human development.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to outline the current research methods in social and developmental psychology.
2   To be able to describe and summarize the historical foundations of the study of social development.
3   To be able to identify and differentiate the development of theoretical perspectives
4   To be able to illustrate the knowledge in early developmental characteristics as a tool for understanding how multiple pathways of development occur.
5   To be able to debate the ways that biological and environmental influences and the role children play in their own development influence the development.
6   To be able to appraise the appropriate unit for studying social development, the universality of social development, and continuous and discontinuous development.

Assessment Criteria

In total, one midterm and one final will be conducted. There will be multiple selection, short answer and open-ended questions in the levels of wide range of knowledge, comprehension, analysis, interpretation and synthesis for all exams.
