Course Objective

It is aimed to enable the students comprehend the relation between today s active
cultural elements and the past, by presenting the development processes of the Turkish
culture which has a thousands of years as background.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to comprehend the development phases of the Turkish culture.
2   To be able to make a general analysis regarding the lifestyle of the Turks within the course of time
3   To be able to evaluate on the references related to the History of Turkish Culture.
4   To be able to discuss what kind of transformation process the Turks have undergone concerning the customs and traditions during the interaction with the Western society
5   To be able to compare the inter-civilizational changes from past to present

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The students are expected to get prepared for the course according to the weekly course
schedule, using the particular references, and a methodology that consists of lectures,
debates and practices will be followed during the class. First of all, the theoretical
background will be provided and then knowledge input and output processes will be
applied. Through tangible exemplification method, several activities on the data and
information utilized during the class will be performed. During the practical part of
the course, the students are expected to prepare assignments and presentations, to
perform their presentations during the course within the particular week; and then, the
issues covered in the presentations will be discussed during the class.

It is obligated to continue to at least 70% of lessons. The instructor has right to
make practical quizzes. The scores obtained from quizzes will be directly added to exam
