Course Objective

To present the general view of the renewal period of religious education. To examine the basic laws that shaped religious education in the transition to the republic during the Ottoman renewal period. To teach the ideas of the thinkers about religious education in the period of innovation. To evaluate the debates made within the framework of religious education.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learners will be able to explain general changes in religious education in renewal period in Ottoman years and republican era, and also they will be able to explain and link to each other some political, social and religious processes that caused those changes
2   They will have information about how religious education took place in schools in republican era
3   They will evaluate Tawhid-i Tadrisat law according to its importance of religious education and possible results
4   They will be able to explain formal religious education in main lines in republican renewal period and link it with school syllabuses

7 Education and religious education in `ilm circles and some famous mosques
8 New educational institutions in Abbasitah; case study on Bayt'ul- Hikmah
9 Establishing the madrasahs in Salchuks and other Turkish countries
10 Aims of establishing Nizamiyah madrasahs and their programmes
11 Madrasahs and "ahilik" in early Ottoman years
12 Madrasahs of Ikhtisas
13 Fatih's madrasahs in the rising years of Ottomans
14 "Loncalar" as a non-formal educational institutions in Ottomans
