Course Objective

Apprehending the place of the vocabulary teaching while teaching French as a foreign language; word types, knowing the semantic and functional features of words, being able to make analysis about words, acquiring the necessary skills to know the new methods about the vocabulary teaching.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knowing the word types and acquiring the necessary knowledge to teach them.
2   Acquiring the necessary information about vocabulary teaching in foreign language teaching methods.
3   Being able to make semantic and linguistic analysis and using them in language teaching.
4   Acquiring the knowledge about basic French vocabulary.
5   Being able to make semantic analysis about the vocabulary.

2 What are lexeme and its elements
3 Morphological analysis of lexis: prefix, suffix, derivation, composition, abbreviation, etc.
4 Semantic analysis of lexis: signification, interpretation, denotation and connotation
5 Lexicography, lexical relations: synonymy, antonymy
6 Lexical relations: hyperonymy, hyponymy, synonymy
7 Polysemy, synonymy, heteronymy, homography
8 General Review, Course Evaluation, Midterm Exam
9 Semantic analysis: Semantic field, seme analysis
10 Place of the vocabulary teaching in foreign language teaching
11 General evaluation of the foreign language teaching methods
12 Evaluation of the field-oriented books in terms of lexeme
13 Evaluation of the field-oriented textbooks (continued)
14 Acquainting with basic French vocabulary and its situation in the textbooks
15 Final exam
