Course Objective

Students will be able to aware of Turkish educational system end criticize educational practices. They will be able to bring solutions to related educational problems.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Reforms made at the beginning of Turkish Republic. The differences between Turkish and Ottoman Empire educational systems in terms of educational philosophy.
2 The philosophical foundations of Turkish educational system. The general objectives of and principals of Turkish educational system. The principles of democracy, equality, secularity, practicability and co- education and their foundations.
3 The economic and political foundations of Turkish educational system. Turkish as national and educational language.
4 The quantitative aspect of education. Related developments and indicators. Comparison with other countries.
5 The principal of educational equality, gender equality. The evaluation of educational system according to these criterions.
6 Pre-school education. Teacher training. Quantitative and qualitative aspects of these educations. Problems and recommendations.
7 Primary education and basic education. Universal primary education. The quantitative aspect of primary education. Schooling rates according to gander, region and provinces. Carrying children to schools. The educational objectives of primary education. Related researches about quality in primary education.
8 Midterm exam
9 The quantitative aspects of secondary education. Schooling rates the distribution of student among general and vocational and technical education. The educational aims of secondary education. Vocational guidance and related problems.
10 Vocational and technical secondary education. The educational objectives. Related researches and problems. Related targets at developmental plans. Suggestions.
11 Higher education. Educational objectives and their realization. Entrance of higher education and related problems. Private universities. Qualitative aspect of higher education: Schooling rates, cost and expenditures. Related researches and problems and suggestions. Private universities
12 Informal education, vocational and technical informal education. Psychological counseling and guidance, their importance, related problems and suggestions.
13 Evaluations and comparison of Turkish educational system according to international standards.
14 Students presentations (written and oral) feedbacks and corrections
