Course Objective

The aim of this course is to examine, evaluate and interpret the impact of the nationalist movements emerging in the Balkans on the Ottoman Empire, the role of this effect on the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, Türkiye's relations with the Balkan States in the Republican period and the effects of these relations to the present day within the framework of the dynamics in the Balkans and Anatolia.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have general knowledge about Balkan Identities, political and ethnic situations of the Balkans
2   Understanding the effects of the developments in the Balkans on the Ottoman Empire
3   To know the changes in foreign policy from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic and the policies implemented
4   Learning the general policy of the Republic of Türkiye towards the Balkans
5   Since the end of the 19th century, migrations from the Balkans to Anatolia, understanding the effects of these migrations
6   Learning Türkiye's alliance relations with the Balkan States, mutually signed agreements and the effects of these agreements on the present day
