Course Objective

This course will focus on the basic of the Geographical Information Systems and its applicability to the mining industry. Also recent research projects and articles on that subject will be discussed.

1   To define the basic functions and components of GIS
2   To use the statistical data and graphical or non-graphical data for GIS applications
3   To learn how to create efficient database for GIS projects
4   To organize the data processing stages
5   To manage the GIS applications in mining project

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

This lecture will give an idea about the Geographical Information Systems and its applicability to the mining projects. The lecture provides to students, to prepare efficient information infrastructure, to increase productivity, better resource management, interdepartmental coordination and sharing with using of the GIS in mining projects. Then, some of the prepared GIS projects in mining industry will be explained and discussed.

Assessment Criteria

- 1 Project: 25%
- 1 Mid-Term Exam 25%
- Final Exam: 50%.
