This course aims to comprehend the principles of academic writing, research principles and techniques and the stages of a research through a selected research topic in the field of architecture.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course will consist of theoretical lectures by the instructor and in-class discussions centered on student assignments and high-performance presentations. The theoretical lectures will support a research design to be developed during the semester. The lecturer will guide students with information and resources related to the research they will design and the topics they will present. It is important that students come to class prepared and actively participate in class discussions.

Assessment Criteria

1. The midterm exam aims to measure reading comprehension and the ability to interpret the information acquired and discussed in the lectures (LO1, LO2).
2. Assignments and student presentations will be evaluated on criteria such as clear understanding of the topic, originality of treatment and discussion, depth of facts and concepts, comprehensiveness, clarity, organization and format (LO1, L02, LO6).
3. The research paper is expected to achieve a certain level of success in basic discursive arguments such as theory, empirical facts, logic, analogy, case studies and positioning by referencing influential figures in the field. (LO3, LO4, LO5, LO6).
4. Continuous and active participation in class is important for understanding the topics (LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4, LO5, LO6).

Course Policies and Rules

1. Attendance and active participation is required throughout the semester.
2. Students are expected to attend the lectures being prepared for the topics and related materials.
3. Students are expected to attend at least 70% of the lectures in order to achieve this course.
4. Late submissions will be evaluated differently.
5. Any kinds of plagiarism will result in disciplinary action.
