Course Objective

To provide examples of multilayered historical buildings and fabric which involve the traces and historical ruins of various periods and cultures and to discuss conservation approaches.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to describe the concepts of multiculturalism, multilayeredness, multilayered building and multilayered fabric,
2   To be able to explain the concept of urban archaeology,
3   To be able to discuss the conservation problems in multilayered buildings and fabric,
4   To be able to evaluate different conservation approaches in multilayered buildings and fabric,
5   To be able to state one's knowledge about multilayered buildings and fabric visually, orally and in writing.

The grade of Midterm Exam II is determined by holistic evaluation of the assignment submitted and the presentation.

Assessment Criteria

Midterm exam : %20 (LO1, LO2)

Class participation : %10 (LO4)
Research article : %50 (LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4, LO5)


The knowledge dimension (LO1) of the learning outcomes is measured with a midterm exam and a research article; their comprehension dimension (LO2) is measured with a midterm exam and a research article; their analysis dimension (LO3) is measured with a research article, an assignment/ presentation; their evaluation dimension (LO4) is measured with class participation and a research article; and their synthesis dimension (LO5) is measured with a research article, an assignment/presentation.

The evaluation of participation in the course will be determined with attendance by the student, his/her active participation in the discussion medium during the course and his/her qualitative contribution in this context.
